What Chin Liposuction Treats

Submental liposuction removes the fat pad under the chin that blurs the jawline. A single incision under the chin, and sometimes two more behind the ears, gives access to the whole submental and upper neck area. The procedure works when the fullness is fat. Where it comes from a receded chin, loose platysma muscle bands or lax skin, liposuction alone will underdeliver, and chin augmentation or a neck lift is the honest answer. Korean surgeons commonly combine submental liposuction with chin implant or filler work for that reason.

What determines candidacy

  • Fat versus skin laxity as the cause of fullness
  • Chin projection and jaw position
  • Platysma muscle banding in the neck
  • Skin elasticity, which declines sharply after the mid forties

Why Korea for Chin Liposuction

Jawline definition is a central concern in the Korean aesthetic market, which means submental work is high volume and priced accordingly. Clinics here routinely combine it with jawline botulinum toxin, chin filler or a small implant in the same visit, and they are used to assessing whether the fullness is fat at all rather than treating every case as liposuction. The short operating time and local anesthesia keep the cost at a level where it functions as an entry procedure.

Where to Get Chin Liposuction in Seoul

Gangnam-daero at dusk, high-rise glass towers reflecting the sunset above a wide tree-lined pavement

Almost every liposuction and general plastic surgery clinic in the Gangnam corridor offers it, so availability is not the constraint. The judgement is: ask the surgeon to tell you honestly whether your fullness is fat, skin or bone position. A clinic that quotes for liposuction without examining chin projection is not doing that assessment.

What to Expect: Before, During & After

The recovery is short but the compression band under the chin is visible, which is the practical constraint.

  1. ConsultationAssessment of fat versus laxity, chin projection and neck banding. Photographs in profile.
  2. Surgery30 to 60 minutes under local anesthesia. A small incision sits in the crease under the chin.
  3. First 5 daysSwelling and bruising along the jaw and upper neck. Compression band worn continuously.
  4. Weeks 1 to 3Band moves to night-time wear. Firmness under the chin is normal.
  5. Weeks 6 to 10Final definition emerges as swelling clears.

For Medical Travelers

The shortest stay of any procedure here: four to five days is enough, and the incision is a few millimetres. The compression band is the awkward part, since it wraps around the head and is not discreet. Most patients wear it continuously for the first week including on the flight home.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if my double chin is fat or skin?

Tilt your head back and look in profile. Fat stays as a distinct pad; laxity flattens out and shows as loose skin. The surgeon's examination settles it, and the answer determines whether liposuction is the right operation at all.

Will the skin under my chin sag afterwards?

In patients under about forty-five with good elasticity, the skin retracts. Beyond that, removing the fat pad can reveal laxity that the fat was holding out, and a neck lift is the procedure that addresses that.

Is this the same as fat dissolving injections?

No. Injection lipolysis breaks down small amounts of fat over several sessions with no incision. Liposuction removes the fat pad in one operation with a more definite and more predictable result. For a substantial submental pad, injections generally underdeliver.

How long do I wear the band?

Continuously for the first week, then at night for a further one to two weeks. Skipping it prolongs swelling and can compromise how the skin redrapes.
