What Korean Clinics Include in Aftercare, and What They Do Not

One reason Korean surgical quotes look competitive is that they frequently include elements billed as extras in other markets. That also makes cross-clinic comparison harder, because two quotes for the same procedure may cover very different amounts of post-operative care.

Commonly included

Compression garments for body contouring, a set number of lymphatic drainage or swelling management sessions, post-operative medication for the first week, and follow-up visits during the initial recovery period are usually inside the quoted surgical fee. Anesthesia and facility use are almost always included in Korea, where they are frequently separate line items in the United States.

Commonly excluded

Additional drainage sessions beyond the included set, scar management beyond the basic dressing, extended medication, and any treatment for complications after the standard follow-up window. Transport, accommodation, and interpreter services beyond the consultation are separate unless a package explicitly covers them.

The question that resolves it

Ask the clinic to list, in writing, everything included in the quoted price and the date on which included follow-up ends. A clinic quoting 4.2 million KRW with eight drainage sessions and three months of follow-up is offering something different from one quoting 3.8 million with two sessions and one month. The cheaper headline is not always the cheaper procedure.

Remote follow-up

For patients returning home, ask specifically how follow-up works after departure. The better clinics run scheduled video consultations at fixed intervals and ask for photographs taken under consistent lighting. Some maintain informal referral relationships with clinics in major overseas cities for cases needing hands-on assessment. A clinic that has no answer to this question has told you something useful.

Managing recovery from a hotel

If you are recovering in Korea rather than at home, choose accommodation within walking distance of the clinic and with a kitchenette. Pharmacies are widely available and pharmacists commonly speak enough English to fill a prescription, but bring your prescriptions in writing rather than relying on verbal instruction. Convenience stores stock cold packs and soft food, which covers most of the first week after facial surgery.
