Revision Rhinoplasty in Korea 2026: Rib vs Septum Cost & Stay
Revision rhinoplasty in Korea after a failed silicone implant usually needs your own rib: ₩8.8M-13.2M (US$6,582-9,873) with VAT vs ₩6.05M-9.35M (US$4,525-6,993) for septal cartilage (Seoul, Nov 2026). Own rib needs about 15 nights in Seoul and, in a Korean cohort, showed 3% notable resorption vs 30% for donor rib.
For revision rhinoplasty in Korea after a failed silicone implant, your own rib cartilage is the right rebuilding material for most noses, especially a short, contracted or once-infected one. Septal cartilage suits a tilted or visible implant on a nose that has kept its length and still has enough septum. Donor rib makes sense only if you won't accept a chest scar and can live with a weaker resorption record. (Resorption means the body slowly absorbs the graft.)
On one Seoul clinic's official fee schedule, priced as of November 2026, an own-rib revision costs ₩8.8M-13.2M (US$6,582-9,873) with VAT and needs about 15 nights in Seoul. Septal or ear cartilage costs ₩6.05M-9.35M (US$4,525-6,993) and needs 10-12 nights.

Own Rib vs Donor Rib vs Septum: What Does the Research Show?
Own rib has the strongest case for a revision nose, because a failed silicone implant usually leaves damage that only a large supply of strong cartilage can repair. A 2018 review in Plastic and Aesthetic Research puts complication rates after silicone nose augmentation at 4% to 36%. A crooked (deviated) nose is the most frequent reason Asian patients seek revision. The same review explains why surgeons in Asia rely on rib: after a first operation, the septum often cannot supply enough of the patient's own cartilage.
Pooled studies rate own and donor rib about equal. Vila and colleagues (JAMA Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery, 2020) combined 28 studies with 1,041 patients, 748 with own rib and 153 with irradiated donor rib. No outcome differed significantly. Pooled rates, with 95% confidence intervals in brackets:
- Warping: 6% (2-11%) for own rib, 5% (1-12%) for donor rib
- Resorption: 1% (0-2%) vs 4% (0-13%)
- Infection: 2% (0-5%) vs 3% (1-8%)
- Contour irregularity: 0% (0-3%) vs 3% (0-7%)
- Revision surgery: 5% (1-10%) vs 7% (3-12%)
That average has three weak spots for a revision patient. It did not separate Asian or revision patients. Twenty-three of the 28 studies carried a high risk of bias. And the authors could not say whether the two materials perform equally as structural grafts such as columellar struts, the supports a contracted nose needs most.
A Korean cohort fills the gap. In Wee and colleagues' study (JAMA Facial Plastic Surgery, 2017), donor rib showed notable resorption 10 times as often as own rib: 30% (6 of 20) against 3% (2 of 63). Warping did not differ, and satisfaction was higher with own rib.
Septal cartilage spares you a second wound. A first surgery, though, often leaves only enough for a tip or small bridge correction, and too little to lengthen a contracted nose. Ask for a CT scan of the remaining septum before accepting a septal-only plan. Own rib carries the lowest infection risk of the graft materials. Its revision rate still reaches 15.5% in difficult Asian cases in the Plastic and Aesthetic Research review, partly because surgeons use it on the most scarred noses.
One surgery or two trips?
A one-stage operation removes the silicone and its scar capsule and places cartilage in the same session, provided the implant is neither infected nor exposed. Staging removes the implant now and rebuilds the nose months later. It is the cautious route for an active infection or an implant breaking through the skin.
Staging also costs more. Assuming a 7-night removal trip and a 15-night rebuild trip, you book 22 nights instead of 15. At ₩150,000 a night for the hotel plus ₩50,000 a day for meals and taxis, the extra 7 days add ₩1.4M (US$1,047) before a second flight. Get the surgeon's reasoning for staging, or for not staging, in writing.
How Much Does Revision Rhinoplasty Cost in Korea in 2026?
Revision rhinoplasty costs ₩6.05M-14.3M (US$4,525-10,696) with VAT on the official fee schedule of a clinic on Gangnam-daero in Seocho-gu. The clinic last updated the schedule on January 1, 2026. Prices are as of November 2026, converted at ₩1,337 per US$.
| Procedure | Published fee (no VAT) | With 10% VAT | With VAT (US$) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revision with your own septal or ear cartilage | ₩5.5M-8.5M | ₩6.05M-9.35M | US$4,525-6,993 |
| Revision with your own rib, harvest included | ₩8.0M-12.0M | ₩8.8M-13.2M | US$6,582-9,873 |
| Reconstruction of a severely contracted nose | ₩9.0M-13.0M | ₩9.9M-14.3M | US$7,405-10,696 |
The rib price includes the harvest. At the top of each range, a rib rebuild runs ₩3.85M (US$2,880) above a septal or ear revision, or 1.41 times as much. The clinic includes a free aftercare package for a set period and bills aftercare separately after that. Anesthesia, the CT scan and tests have no line of their own, so confirm whether your quote covers them.
VAT is now a fixed part of the bill. Korea's Ministry of Economy and Finance ended the foreign-patient VAT refund for cosmetic and dermatology procedures supplied after December 31, 2025. Refunds had hit a record ₩95.5 billion in 2024, the program's last full year. Any guide that still promises a 7-8% refund at the airport is out of date. A quote that leaves out VAT understates your bill by 10%.
Korean law requires clinics to publish their non-covered (self-pay) fees. Korea Care Guide is independent and takes no referral fees or booking commissions from clinics, so this guide compares those official schedules rather than promotional prices. Before paying a deposit, check any agency quote against the clinic's fee page and get a written quote that shows:
- whether VAT is included
- anesthesia by an anesthesiologist, the CT scan and blood tests
- any overnight stay and, if rib is taken, care of the chest wound
- splint and stitch removal, and follow-up visits
- for donor rib, the surcharge and the tissue bank that supplies it
Recheck the exchange rate on the day you pay. A 5% swing in the won moves a ₩13.2M bill by roughly US$490.
How Long Should You Stay in Seoul, and What Does the Trip Cost?
Book 10-12 nights in Seoul for a septal or ear cartilage revision and 14-16 nights for a rib rebuild. Fly home only after the surgeon has removed the splint, checked the nose (and the chest wound, if rib was taken) and given you written clearance to fly.
Two sample trips put a price on those nights. Each takes surgery at the top of the published range with VAT. Add a hotel within 20-30 minutes of the clinic at ₩150,000 a night and ₩50,000 a day for meals and taxis; flights are extra.
- Trip A, septal or ear cartilage, 11 nights: ₩9.35M surgery, ₩1.65M hotel and ₩0.55M daily costs come to ₩11.55M (US$8,639), or ₩12.71M-13.28M (US$9,503-9,935) with a 10-15% buffer.
- Trip B, own-rib rebuild, 15 nights: ₩13.2M, ₩2.25M and ₩0.75M come to ₩16.2M (US$12,117), or ₩17.82M-18.63M (US$13,328-13,934) with the same buffer.
Trip B costs ₩4.65M (US$3,478) more: ₩3.85M from surgery and ₩0.8M from four extra days in Seoul. Hold the buffer for a CT scan, medicines, extra follow-up visits or a changed flight, especially after a rib harvest or a past infection.
Bruising fades first. Swelling in a scarred revision nose, especially at the tip, can take a year or more to settle. Judge the result after that, and keep your surgeon updated with photos through video check-ins.
Which Revision Plan Fits Your Nose, Budget and Time Off?
Your nose sets the material, and the material sets the minimum budget and stay. Each budget here covers the hotel and daily costs as well as surgery.
| Your nose | Budget | Days available | Best-fit plan | Surgery price with VAT |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Short, contracted or once infected; thin skin | US$8,000-12,500 | 15+ | Own-rib rebuild (trip B) | ₩8.8M-13.2M (US$6,582-9,873) |
| Visible or tilted implant, healthy septum | US$5,000-9,000 | 10-12 | Implant removal plus septal or ear cartilage (trip A) | ₩6.05M-9.35M (US$4,525-6,993) |
| Needs rib, but no chest scar wanted | Ask for the donor-rib surcharge | 14-16 | Donor rib, after a frank talk about resorption | Full itemized quote |
| Implant infected or exposed now | ₩17.6M (US$13,164) plus a second flight | 7, then 15 | A clinic or hospital offering both one-stage and staged plans | Full itemized quote |
| Any nose, under 10 days | Any | Under 10 | No rib rebuild: book a longer trip or limit the surgery | Not applicable |
The hardest case is a budget that covers trip A when the nose needs trip B. Waiting and saving is better than asking a surgeon to stretch septal cartilage beyond what it can do. If that surgery also fails, the next revision starts with even less cartilage.
How Do You Vet a Revision Rhinoplasty Clinic in Seoul?
Vet the surgeon before the neighborhood, because Seoul is where nearly every foreign patient ends up. The Ministry of Health and Welfare counted a record 2,011,822 foreign patients in Korea in 2025, the third record year in a row, and Seoul handled 87.2% of them. Plastic surgery drew 11.2%, about 225,000 people. Patients from the United States rose 70.4% from the year before.
Nose-focused clinics cluster around Sinsa and Apgujeong and along the stretch from Gangnam Station to Sinnonhyeon. The fee schedule in this guide comes from a Seocho-gu clinic on Gangnam-daero. For an infected implant or a severely contracted nose that may need staging, a university hospital department is a sound alternative.
Run every clinic through four checks:
- Registration. Clinics and agencies that recruit foreign patients must register with the government. Search the exact clinic name and branch on the Medical Korea portal, and check any agency separately.
- Surgeon, not brand. Confirm board certification in plastic surgery or ENT facial plastic surgery, and confirm that the surgeon you meet is the one who operates.
- Evidence. Ask for before-and-after photos taken at least 12 months after surgery and a plan built on your CT scan.
- Aftercare. Get in writing how long free aftercare lasts, how remote check-ins work, and who pays for a touch-up or re-revision within what time limit.
Walk away from any clinic that promises a final shape before a CT scan, recommends donor rib for every nose, changes the price after you arrive without a written reason, or pushes for surgery the day after you land.
What to ask at the consultation
Get written answers to five questions so you can compare clinics on the same terms:
- Material: Which cartilage will you use for my nose (my septum, my own rib or donor rib), and why? For donor rib, how much resorption have you seen two or more years after surgery?
- Plan: Will you remove the whole capsule, and what would make you stage the surgery?
- Price: Is the quote VAT-inclusive, and does it match your published non-covered fee schedule line by line?
- Experience: How many silicone-implant revisions do you personally perform each year, and what is your re-revision rate? Compare the answer with the 5-7% pooled figure in Vila 2020.
- After I fly home: When can I fly, what happens if an infection returns, and who pays for a touch-up?
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does revision rhinoplasty cost in Korea in 2026?
With VAT, it costs ₩6.05M-9.35M (US$4,525-6,993) with septal or ear cartilage, ₩8.8M-13.2M (US$6,582-9,873) with your own rib, and ₩9.9M-14.3M (US$7,405-10,696) for a severely contracted nose. These are one Seoul clinic's official prices as of November 2026, converted at ₩1,337 per US$. Foreign patients can no longer claim the VAT back.Is donor rib as good as my own rib?
Pooled data in Vila 2020 show no significant difference. In a Korean cohort (Wee 2017), however, notable resorption was 30% with donor rib and 3% with own rib. Choose donor rib mainly to avoid a chest scar. How long should I stay in Seoul after revision rhinoplasty?
Plan for 10-12 nights with septal or ear cartilage and 14-16 nights for a rib rebuild. Leave only after your surgeon gives you written clearance to fly. What are the chances I need another revision?
Pooled revision rates are 5% for own rib and 7% for donor rib. Difficult Asian revisions with own rib reach 15.5%. Ask each surgeon for their own rate.Related Guides on Korea Care Guide

Bottom Line: Rib or Septum for Revision Rhinoplasty in Korea?
For most failed silicone implants, plan around your own rib. On a Seoul fee schedule priced as of November 2026, it costs ₩8.8M-13.2M (US$6,582-9,873) with VAT and needs about 15 nights in Seoul. In Korean patients it also showed a tenth of donor rib's resorption rate. Septal or ear cartilage, at ₩6.05M-9.35M (US$4,525-6,993) and about 11 nights, fits only when a CT scan confirms enough septum and the nose has kept its length.
Two conditions change the plan. With fewer than 10 days, skip the rib rebuild and book a longer trip. With an infected or exposed implant, choose a clinic or hospital that offers a staged plan and budget about ₩17.6M (US$13,164) plus a second flight.
Next, ask two or three registered clinics for a CT-based plan and an itemized, VAT-inclusive quote, and run each through the four vetting checks. Take one question into every consultation, 'Which cartilage will you use for my nose, and what is your own re-revision rate?', and book with the surgeon who answers it clearly and in writing.
